Artist Statement
I create vibrant abstract paintings with tropical and summer themes, rooted in movement and memory.
I produce colourful paintings mostly done with acrylic and oil sticks, built in layered surfaces rich in gesture and details. My process in the studio is paced by the spontaneity of movements. I do not plan what my paintings will look like, I begin without sketches or predetermined compositions. Music often guides the rhythm of the work and shapes the pace on which the paintings unfold intuitively.
Working with acrylic and oil stick, I build layered surfaces rich in colour, gesture, and detail. My process is intuitive and spontaneous — I begin without sketches or predetermined compositions. Music often guides the rhythm of the work, shaping the pace of each mark and allowing the painting to unfold organically.
My visual language is deeply formed by my Brazilian origins: the intensity of colour, the energy of carnival and the warmth of collective celebration and friendliness. I draw inspiration from music albums, family travel photographs and local artistic expressions encountered in the places I’ve been.
Living in Europe as an immigrant, painting has become a way to navigate the tension between presence and returning. My work is shaped by “saudade” — the Brazilian Portuguese word describing a mixed feeling of nostalgia and desire. Abstract paintings allow me to position myself in this unique unknown feeling, with each work inviting the viewers to feel with me this joy mixed with distance and a rhythm that can also be seen in stillness.
Background
I was born in Brazil and currently based in Berlin. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from Universidade Federal de Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil. My early career in design sharpened my sensitivity to composition and colours, yet over time with more commercial works, I felt drawn away from personal expression and creativity.
After relocating to Germany, I graduated in International Economics and built a career in the tech industry as a project and product manager. Structure, systems, and logic became central to my professional life — and again I felt even more distant from myself.
I gradually rediscovered my creative side when slowly returning to painting in the past years. It was a way of reconnecting to my instincts and to my home country, using the expressive energy I grew up surrounded by in northeast Brazil.
Today, in my Berlin atelier, I create paintings in an intuitive process, listening to Brazilian music while feeling as happy as I’ve ever been.
